“Last year we had over 400 entries, said Cynthia Llerenas, City staff member who organizes this event for the City of Santa Clarita Human Relations Forum. “The mission of the Santa Clarita Valley Human Relations Forum is to encourage, assist, and empower our community to eliminate all forms of discrimination, and to promote understanding and appreciation of human differences. Art and written expression is a great way to embrace cultural likenesses and differences. We chose the theme “What Makes Your Family the Same or Different From Another Family or What Makes Your Family Special” because cultural acceptance of different cultures begins at home. Celebrating family life and one’s cultural heritage often lays the foundation for their own appreciation of their family as well as others.”
The City of Santa Clarita Human Relations Forum works to promote positive human relations and acceptance of all people in every aspect of community life. With the goal to make Santa Clarita a place where all people can live and work peacefully with a better understanding of each other and the value of diversity. According Llerenas, over 2,500 people of all ages have attended the 2006 City of Santa Clarita Season of Diversity events this year.
“This year the Forum hosted 16 community events for people of all ages, designed to educate the public about cultural acceptance,” said Llerenas. “We have a very active Human Relations Forum and they take their job very seriously. The Human Relations forum meets at 4:00 PM on the second Tuesday of each month at the Santa Clarita Activities Center. Members of the community are welcome to attend.”
