Legislative Session Starts Monday

Will the third time be the charm for Gil Cedillo and the hordes of illegal aliens who’ve been waiting so patiently for the DMV to give them driver’s licenses?…

Sure, we’re being facetious, but it’s no joke that on Monday, the state senator from inner-city Los Angeles is expected to reintroduce his illegal alien driver’s license bill. It has been vetoed at least twice before, once by ex-Gov. Gray Davis and last year by Gov. Schwarzenegger, but Cedillo hasn’t given up.
Perhaps that, as much as anything, is in an indicator of what to expect from Sacramento this year: more of the same.
For despite term limits, the makeup of the Legislature won’t change when the lawmakers reconvene Monday. Like the last two years, Democrats will outnumber Republicans 48-32 in the Assembly and 25-15 in the Senate.
They’re expected to try once again to mollify their various constituencies with bills that would legalize gay marriage, raise the minimum wage, force employers to cover their workers’ health care costs, and sanction the purchase of prescription drugs from Canada.
