A man and his dog were found dead in a ravine off Lake Hughes Road near Interstate 5 in Castaic. The 59-year-old Lake Elizabeth Man was most likely on his way to work in Canoga Park on Monday, when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle veered off Lake Hughes Road and Slid down a 200-foor ravine, said California Highway Patrol Officer Wendy Hahn. The man’s name is being withheld until his next of kin can be notified. The man’s co-workers began looking for him Tuesday when he did not show up for work two days in a row. The co-workers, who work for the city of Los Angeles, tracked the man’s normal route. “They stopped every 100 feet to look for him,” Hahn said. Around 3 p.m. the group saw the man’s white dog dead in the ravine off of Lake Hughes Road. The co-workers could not see the man or his car from the road. Members of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Los Angeles County Fire Department and CHP were called to the scene. A short time later the man was found dead. His vehicle had slid about 200 feet down the side of the ravine, requiring the fire department’s search and rescue team to retrieve the man’s body and his dog – both had been ejected from the vehicle. “There is no evidence of what happened,” Hahn said. “It probably happened at 5 a.m. Monday.” The death is under investigation and officials are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
