In addition to helping people spiritually, White’s vision for NorthPark also involves helping the community by providing athletic fields, meeting spaces, emergency services like feeding firemen during big fires, a preschool and more.

“(Our marquee) isn’t going to say NorthPark Community Church, it’s going to say NorthPark Community Campus,” White said. “This is my hometown, and I’ve lived out here since 1960… I wanted to find a way to give back, and NorthPark has been the venue for me to do that.”

Raised in Valencia, White is a Hart High alumni, and his father has served as principal of Canyon High and Arroyo Seco Junior High.

White, his wife of 28 years, Sue, and his five children still live in Santa Clarita, as do his parents, his brother and sister and their families.

White initially formed NorthPark in response to the 1994 earthquake, which destroyed his parents’ home in Stevenson Ranch.

“People were shaken up, and I said let’s find a church and get you plugged in somewhere,” he said, adding that their response was usually that they hadn’t found one. “So we invited people over and started meeting for awhile… And here we are 20 years later.”

White has travelled to more than 60 countries to study or serve, including a recent trip to Thailand to assist in the rescue of child victims of sex trafficking, and he currently has a basketball ministry in Palestine.

He received his Masters of Divinity from Talbot Theological Seminary, where he also went on to get his PhD.
