Art has been known to heal. Now, Santa Clarita art students can help the healing process and win a full art scholarship as they fill the walls with their art at the new Providence Holy Cross medical facility in Santa Clarita.

The project is a joint collaboration between Providence Holy Cross and SCV Arts. It evolved while Jeri Seratti Goldman, owner of KHTS AM-1220 radio was receiving a tour of the new facility.

There are two key elements to the Art of Healing. First, Santa Clarita elementary school students will have a venue to display their art and compete for scholarships, and more importantly, the displayed art will help the healing process for thousands of Providence Holy Cross visitors.

“I was looking at all these bare walls,” Jeri stated. “Brigette Loden, who was giving us the tour said we could use some art. I thought of those cancer patients sitting for hours receiving chemo and realized this would be an incredible project to take on.”

Jeri added, “I immediately thought of SCV Arts. They are already involved in a number of other art related projects with the radio station.”

Gloria Locke, is the co-owner and founder of SCV Arts: “There are so many talented local artists in our Valley. In speaking with a number of them, they have told me how thrilled they are with the opportunity to display their works at Providence Holy Cross. I think people will be blown away when they see the work our talented artists are producing. We intend to rotate the art on a quarterly basis, so a diverse representation can be displayed.”

The Art of Healing will partner with Santa Clarita elementary schools. Student’s art will be displayed on the walls of the Providence Holy Cross Building for everyone to enjoy on a quarterly basis. Each year, a winner will be selected from the displayed art. The winner will receive a one-year scholarship for art classes at SCV Arts.

Jeri Seratti Goldman’s mother, Jean Seratti recently underwent nine months of chemo-therapy at Providence Holy Cross. One chemo session could last for up to eight hours. Jeri is passionate about launching the art project. “This will be an on-going event. It will give our kids a chance to display their talents and hopefully put a smile on the face of those receiving treatment at Providence Holy Cross.”
