PFK Consulting’s newest report on Trends in the Hotel Industry announces that the Santa Clarita Valley still is the leader among hotel occupancy rates in the Los Angeles area for September 2006. With an 85.54 percent occupancy rate for September 2006 and an 86.50 percent occupancy rate overall for January through September 2006, Santa Clarita’s hotel occupancy numbers top hotel areas such as the LAX Airport, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica.

“Having the highest hotel occupancy rate for the second time this year shows that the Santa Clarita Valley is a popular destination for businesses and tourists and proves that our City can consistently maintain a higher hotel attendance rate than hotels in the L.A. area,” said Jason Crawford, Film & Tourism Administrator for the City.”

In August, the City hosted the 2006 Verizon USA Luge Tour, which served as a tryout for the USA Olympic Luge Team children ages 11 to 14; the Swimming Junior Olympics, which brought more than 800 swimmers who came from as far as San Luis Obispo and Las Vegas and an additional 800 spectators; and the All Corked Up International Wine & Food Festival, attracting thousands of visitors to Santa Clarita for an afternoon of tasting with more than 55 different wineries, as well as food from some of Santa Clarita’s best restaurants. 

“When the hotels in Santa Clarita have a steady hotel residence rate, it reflects a confident image when our City is looking to attract other business and entertainment venues,” stated Crawford.

Since January 2006, the Santa Clarita Valley has hosted other various activities such as the Synergy Youth Sports Softball Tournament and the Southern California Annual Football Tournament.
