“111 of us marched as the grand marshals of the parade in honor of the women’s right to vote in California,” Weste said.
On Friday, seven Marines from a Santa Clarita USMC recruiting station were on hand to ceremonially fold the flag at Santa Clarita Veterans Historical Plaza.
She hoped it would serve as a reminder and inspiration to women young and old about the importance of exercising their right to vote.“We’re getting it folded and then we’re going to measure it and then we’re going to put it on display,” Weste said, adding it would be displayed at the Old Town Newhall Library. “And as children come in and learn to read, they will see that, and that hopefully, will help them keep in mind, what the cost was for that right to vote.”
More than 100 women ranging in age from girl scouts to retirees helped the group carry the flag throughout the parade route.
