Elementary schools in the Castaic, Newhall, Saugus and Sulphur Springs districts are on a list of schools potentially eligible to apply for California Distinguished School recognition for 2006. There are two in the Castaic Union Elementary School District: Castaic Elementary and Northlake Hills Elementary. There are seven in the Newhall Elementary School District: Meadows Elementary, Newhall Elementary, Old Orchard Elementary, Peachland Avenue Elementary, Pico Canyon Elementary, Valencia Valley Elementary, Wiley Canyon Elementary, according to the California Department of Education Web site.
