COC Foundation Director Stepping Down

The College of the Canyons Foundation has announced the departure of its longtime executive director.

Kathleen Maloney, who built the foundation from a small organization into a powerful fundraising group with more than 40 directors, is leaving the foundation after nearly 18 years.

“I’ve accomplished my personal goals for the COC Foundation, raising more than $16 million over the years and helping create a foundation that is considered one of the best community college foundations in the state, serving one of the best community colleges in the state. Now I wish to pursue new opportunities. After 18 years I am looking forward to some new challenges, perhaps through consulting or other business opportunities that will present themselves,” said Maloney.

Kevin Holmes, chairman of the foundation board of directors said he wishes Maloney the best. “The foundation is grateful for Kathleen¹s many years of dedicated service. We wish her well in her new pursuits.”

“The COC Foundation has a very strong and capable board and I’m confident they will take it to the next level of fund-raising for the college,” said Maloney. “I will never forget the generosity and selfless service, talent and time the directors gave to the foundation and the help and advice given to me during the last 18 years.”

Through annual giving, special events and endowment programs, and working with numerous departments on campus, the Foundation assists the College with additional private financial resources that fund scholarship programs, special events, materials and experiences beyond what taxpayer dollars are able to support.  The success of the foundation over the years in fundraising and in developing special partnerships with local businesses and organizations has added significantly to the educational experience of countless thousands of students.

Sue Bozman, COC spokesperson, said the district is proud of Maloney’s many accomplishments over the years.

“She and I were hired within a couple of months of each other, and over the years we have worked together on many projects. I think the University Center campaign was one of the most exciting for us both. Kathleen was so pleased with the family campaign part of that. Nearly every employee of the college contributed to the University Center. Now, with funding from several sources, including the capital campaign, the college is about to break ground for that project, the culmination of a huge effort. Although I will miss her, I see that this is a timely moment of closure for her.”
