Training of Sheriffs Forensic Scientists Grant is Authorized

Los Angeles – To secure continued education and training programs for forensic scientists, the Board of Supervisors unanimously authorized the Sheriff’s Department to submit an application for a state grant, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is offering the $91,476 grant as part of the Coverdell Forensic Sciences Improvement Act.  The funds will be used to send members of the Department’s full-time forensics staff to educational and training seminars aimed at mproving the quality, timeliness, and credibility of investigations and evidence examinations.  

The scientists will also be afforded the opportunity to learn modern, industry-specific skills and techniques that will allow for more efficient and effective investigations.
