While the filing would keep Forever Stamps at their current price of 49 cents, if approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission several first-class mail product prices would be increased by several cents each starting April 26.

Letters to all international destinations, currently priced at $1.15, are proposed to increase to $1.20, while letters more than 1 oz. would increase from 21 cents to 22 cents and postcards would increase from 34 cents to 35 cents.

Officials are calling the price hikes the latest in a series of steps the Postal Service has taken as part of a comprehensive approach to achieve financial stability.

Postal Service officials are addressing an “outdated business model” while improving efficiency in streamlining its network and seeking legislative changes, officials said.

Postal Regulatory Commission members are set to review the new prices before they are proposed to go into effect in April to determine if the changes are consistent with applicable law.

In addition to the price increases, the filing also addresses commission concerns about underwater products and attempts to simplify special services to reduce redundancy and improve customer ease of use.

The filing does not affect Postal Service shipping products and services.

  1. What I’d like to see is junk mail paying the same price as regular consumers…and a pre-paid return mailer with “Don’t send me any more crap!” box to check. IMO, that would resolve a lot of the USPS’s shortfall and reduce the garbage I have to dispose of daily. I pay all my bills on line, yet I get between 4 and 10 pieces of garbage a day. That’s absurd!

  2. The USPS would be in great shape if Congress had not imposed a mandatory 75 years out pension funding requirement in 2006 which no other business follows. This was passed in December 2006 by the lame duck GOP Congress after that year’s Democratic sweep for the purpose of causing the USPS to fail.

  3. WHAT ABOUT THE JUNK MAIL????????
