Val Verde Group Calls for Break off

As the pressure of increased housing bears down on the rural community of Val Verde, an older civic group is attempting to break off from a newer one, saying the new group no longer represents its interests. The Val Verde Civic Association steering committee in an emergency meeting Thursday night voted to write to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to reassert the Val Verde Civic Association’s “historic right to represent the residents of Val Verde with respect to land use issues rather than continuing the current unsatisfactory relationship with the Castaic Area Town Council,” said Val Verde Civic Association President James Stephens. Members of the Castaic Area Town Council could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon. A dozen people representing both the steering committee and the Val Verde Land Development Committee attended the meeting at Stephens’ home.
