Holding American flags and signs claiming the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are unfair, more than 300 members of the unions that embody the county’s first responders marched along Figueroa Street in front of the Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles to bring public attention to a two-year plea to renew a labor contract that expired Jan. 31, 2003.
    Unable to strike by law and unwilling to call for a work slowdown, the protesters walked six blocks from the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff’s headquarters to the Convention Center, where they circled for about an hour. The mass of county public safety employees made their frustrations known by chanting, “First Responders, Last Priority,” and “Baca, Where Are You?” while national and international police chief conventioneers passed through the line…
