Pearblossom – Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich encourages county
residents to visit the County’s Devil’s Punchbowl Park in the Antelope
Valley to participate in numerous nature exhibits and view this year’s
outstanding display of wildflowers.
Operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation,
Devil’s Punchbowl is one of California’s most unusual rock formations.
A 60 million year old natural wonder, the Devil’s Punchbowl is a massive
collection of large rock slabs – some as large as 500-feet high —
surrounded by gentle sloping terrain near the San Andreas fault.
Visitors can hike or ride a horse on miles of picturesque trails. Other
activities include rock climbing, campfire programs, bird watching,
picnicking and a junior ranger program.
County park staff conducts daily events, including geology walks and
live animal demonstrations featuring a barn owl, an American falcon, and
live snakes between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. School and group tours are
available by reservation. The park also provides seasonal events such
as “Full Moon Hikes” and “Meteor Shower Viewing.” Tours of the San
Andreas Fault are scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Sundays.
The park is located at 28000 Devil’s Punchbowl Road in Pearblossom. For
further information about Devil’s Punchbowl events, or directions to the
park, please call (661) 944-2743 or visit www.devils-punchbowl.com.
