Life Coaching with Alex Urbina – May 8, 2015

We had an amazing Life Leadership Hour today with Alex and Jazmine Urbina!  They talked about how to apologize – how difficult apologizing is, and what gets in the way.  Alex stated that apologizing is difficult because people are addicted to being right.  Alex said it’s a good idea to be sincere and really figure out what you did to cause that person pain – the way to apologize is to mean it, not to do it in hopes of moving on.  People should take the opportunity to reflect on themselves and grow as a person.

Alex spoke about the benefits of apologizing.  There is emotional healing for both parties when someone apologizes.  Also, there is the benefit of the other person being released as a threat.  Apologizing helps people move past their anger and prevents them from getting stuck emotionally and psychologically.   Jazmine acknowledged this, the idea that no one owes her an apology, and how freeing that is.

Alex says that people often try to do the best they can with the circumstances they have.  Normally, people are learning how to be more effective in relationships on the day to do.  How do you deal with someone when you’re at a high level of communication than they are?  Alex and Jazmine both discussed that sometimes people don’t have the benefit of a wake-up call, one that would get them to accept responsibility in a relationship.

Alex also said that apologizing to yourself is really important.  Sometimes people are really hard on themselves, and it’s important to accept your flaws are, and who you are, and not beat yourself up about things.  That can help make you more of a healthy, functional person, and give more of yourself to all aspects of your daily life.

Importantly, apologizing is powerful.  Apologizing eradicates the inner conflict and relationship barriers that sometimes prevent us from being fully actualized human beings.  There is so much stigma associated with apologizing, but really, apologizing helps us become better human beings.  When we apologize, we expand our compassion, selflessness, honesty, and increase our capacity for our humanity as a whole.

Alex and Jazmine really had a great talk on the Life Leadership Hour today, and there will be more insightful discussion from them on how to make the most out of life next week.
