Total Financial Solutions Safer Money Hour With Arif Halaby – 5/5/2015
Hour 1 – In the first hour, Arif and Jeff speak about the different ways to prioritize your retirement savings. Its important to be informed on employer matching retirement funds. Some employers will match as much as 100% of what an employee puts in. Other employers use a profit sharing plan, which is a piece of the 401k put together to set money aside without being taxed on it. Always be mindful that an employee must be putting money in to receive matching from the employer. Roth IRA’s are another good way to save in a safer way, created to slow down pre-tax retirement money.
Hour 2 – Just because the government tells you that you should retire at 65, doesn’t mean you have to! However, if you’re planning on retiring in 2015, Arif and Jeff have some helpful tips to ensure a successful transition. Hopefully you’ve been detailing your plan for retirement by eliminating long-term debt. An important reminder is to not buy anything for a tax write-off, as it won’t do what you expect it to. A retirement account is not designed to be taken out for big purchases or college funding, but is to be dripped out over years and years. Another good tip is to sign up for medicare three months prior to your 65th birthday.
