Families in Action: January 16, 2017

Every few episodes Cary and Michael bring on guests that are currently in programs or whom they are helping in rehabilitation to share their story on the road to recovery. Today is one of those episodes about recovery from alcoholism with their three guests.

Action File:

Smoking cost the global economy $1 trillion each year. Tobacco-related illnesses will claim 8 million lives per year by 2030, cited by the World Health Organization.

According to the CDC, deaths from synthetic opioids are on the rise.

“In the psych hospitals we’re finding many people coming in with psychosis … the only thing in their system is marijuana.” – Cary Quashen

“Also in our ER we have a lot of people coming in with drug-induced issues–and they are coming in on marijuana.” – Cary Quashen

Wet brains – people who have drank themselves into serious long-term health issues and/or diseases

“Once you own it–publicly–then you gotta do something about it and its scary.” – Cary on how people suffering from drinking problems might in fact know it but are afraid to admit it out loud

Justin moved to the San Fernando Valley from the Inland Empire in 2011 to complete his BA of Communications degree at California State University, Northridge. Just a few months after getting his degree he moved to Valencia and started as an intern at AM-1220 KHTS, and was promoted to Sports Reporter within a year.
