Santa Clarita Valley resident and local teacher Erin Acquaviva calls in to recount her own harrowing experience of the October 1, “Las Vegas Massacre” with KHTS show hosts Alex Urbina and Bob Sharits. Listen in as Alex and Erin discuss the massacre and its aftermath in the hours after the incident.
“We were with a group and my husband and I and we were in the VIP tent, closest to the street across from Mandalay Bay. I saw out of the corner of my eye some commotion, and I heard a little popping. But I just thought it was fireworks and everyone was having a good time so I wouldn’t let my head go to a place that thought it was bad. But then the singer stopped and everyone got down and everyone knew it was serious,” – Erin Acquaviva.

As the investigation into Sunday night’s deadly Las Vegas shooting continues, the number of those killed or wounded during the incident — including some Santa Clarita residents — may continue to rise. As of 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, the total number of those killed by the gunman remained at 59 — with another 527 victims wounded — making the tragedy the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, according to CNN.
“Words cannot describe the heartache we are feeling for all the victims of this most cowardly act and we are especially concerned for the Santa Clarita residents who were injured, particularly the family of John Phippen, who was tragically killed,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth. “As always, Santa Clarita will rally around our neighbors and provide the support necessary as they cope with this senseless massacre.”
