As I flip from Fox to CNN I might as well be watching two entirely different newscasts. It isn’t just the slant and opinions, it’s what each network is leaving out to support their own agenda. The mainstream media bashing of our President, from NPR, to MSNBC and CNN has brought a new low to journalism.
It’s important for our local media to rise above the national media nonsense. KHTS applauds the changes at the Signal newspaper. We believe under the new leadership of Richard and Chris Budman the paper will shift to one of friendly competitors, with both media entities working toward the benefit of our valley instead of trying to destroy it.
Having two strong media outlets, and a vibrant local television station in SCVTV, is a strong win for our community. We raise the bar for each other, while providing a different unbiased perspective on our local news. All of us serve exactly what the media is supposed to provide, a check and balance on our officials and an accurate unbiased accounting of the news, even more important in this day of excessive social media skewing and often total fabrications. Our community should always remain confident that they can turn to KHTS, The Signal and SCVTV for accurate reporting instead of feeding rumors.
Over the weekend, a friend sent me a positive email on the Trump presidency. I dare to share it even though another friend, a former local school board member, also shared this week that he was screamed at by a current school board member when she discovered he was a Trump supporter.

Now that there’s new ownership at our newspaper, we believe our competitors will do the same. Our hope is all our local candidates also will follow suit. Maybe Santa Clarita can become the template for a clean political campaign that other communities can duplicate. We are already doing that in so many other areas that make our quality of life here so stellar.
Oh yeah, and here’s the positive Trump email I was sent this weekend. It’s worth a read.
It is called the “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” as titled by Rush Limbaugh.
NOTHING that President Trump does, to the good, will ever make it onto or into the national news. The media have their agenda, and they are going to stick with it, no matter what!
On Friday, the Trump Administration released their Annual White House Office Personnel Expense Report to Congress. It includes the name, position title status, and salary of the 377 White House employees. The report also stated that President Trump decided NOT to take a dime of his salary, and instead has donated it to an amazing cause! (See below)
The report also showed that President Trump is far better at reducing expenses than President Obama was. The total annual White House salaries under President Trump are $35.8 million vs. $40.9 million under President Obama. This is a savings of $5.1 million annually.
Here are some other key findings:
· There are 110 fewer employees on White House staff under President Trump than under President Obama a year into their respective presidencies.
· Nineteen fewer staffers are dedicated to the First Lady of The United States (FLOTUS). There are currently only 5 staffers dedicated to Melania Trump vs. 24 staffers who served Michelle Obama in Fiscal Year 2009.
· However, it is what the report said about what President Trump did with this salary that has everyone talking. Instead of taking his salary, the President donated all $400,000 to the Department of the Interior where it will be used for construction and repair needs at military cemeteries!
AMAZING! And it is just great to have a President who loves our brave military men and women so much!
Oh yeah, and where is the media coverage of this information? Oh, that’s right, they don’t cover anything good that our President does.

Today’s disgraceful surrender of America to Putin makes it
abundantly clear that Trump is his Trojan Horse; put into the
White House to dismantle our country from within. And he is
doing exactly that by insulting our allies while sucking up to
other dictators, dismissing our own intelligence reports, saddling
us with a trillion and a half dollar addition to the federal deficit in
order to gift that to the uber wealthy and cutting much-needed
social programs to aid American citizens. He has violated human
rights by separating families seeking political asylum (in violation
of international law) and placing infants in caged facilities. What
more proof do you need?!

Great Piece Carl, you nailed it and the response from the left leaning gentleman is typical of what we see on CNN, a lot of emotion filled rhetoric without any balanced reasoning, simillar to what you referred to regarding the mainstream media. The only thing I think you missed is not including the Gazette in your local media reference.
You hit the nail on the head Carl. One of the reasons we elected him is because he wasn’t a traditional politician. He is a businessman. I applaud your honesty.
Watching even Fox News skewer President Trump for the way he defended V. Putin and blamed Democrats and Robert Mueller for everything he said today at the Helsinki Press Conference. Putin stood and smiled – I support the CIA not the KGB (like Pres. Trump). This is not derangement syndrome this is standing up for our country not Russia.

This is an example of your derangement syndrome. Literally stating that the president supports the KGB, and that your some sort of patriot for saying it. When people of your ilk speak like that, whatever point you were trying to make falls on deaf ears due to the outlandishness of the statement.
Linda, apparently Eric has Limbaugh derangement syndrome along with Mr. Goldman. I didn’t know anybody even listens to him anymore let alone still quote his false equivalencies. Trump gets his cues from FOX news rather than our national security agencies whose job is to inform the president of facts. And, it’s not mantra, it’s information. Not lies. Not agenda.

THAT’S the NEWSWORTHY “GOOD” of trump no one’s talking about? Sorry, but sexual assault, treason and racism slightly overshadow that stupid crap…..good try though.
Carl, you’re a good man who I personally like a lot. I consider you a friend, and truly enjoyed working with you for several years on the WiSH Education Foundation Board. That said, with all due respect, you’ve left out of this opinion piece some crucial information about the local media landscape, fails to mention the great big elephant in the SCV. Many Santa Claritans likely don’t know that each and every “media” outlet in the SCV is owned, operated and under the editorial control of local Republicans. You and Jeri, Doug Sutton at the Gazette, the decision-makers at SCTV and now the Budmans at the Signal, are ALL power brokers on the local GOP scene. and anyone paying close enough attention to which news stories are covered, who gets interviewed, how policy issues are framed, which candidates get endorsed come election time, not to mention how the conservative agenda gets positioned and pushed, knows the bias is real. Now, you guys own these businesses so how you slant the news is your absolute right. But there’s ‘fair and balanced’ FOX News style, and then there’s a different type of ‘fair and balanced,’ which is actually rooted in the ethics taught in our nation’s top journalism schools. And let’s be honest, the ethics of each outlet here is a hell of a lot closer to FOX than what’s taught at USC’s Annenberg School. So why try to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes? You own it, so just own it. Be honest about your biases, and while we won’t like it, at least you’ll still have our respect.
God bless America and God bless our President who dares speak what other presidents would not. He is training politicians how they should not fear the media. In the past it was all about not upsetting the media for fear of retaliation in what they were capable of twisting and writing. Those who protest and hate our president and our country, make me wonder, where they would be if they tried this in other countries. However, think of what you are teaching your children and younger generation about this great country. Research how terrorists are made!

Carl, I can’t believe you said this after Trump’s embarrassing and disgraceful support for Putin over our own Justice Department indictments. Did you not watch the interview? We are are going to lose our democracy if honest people, including Republicans, many whom already have spoken out, can not look at these actions and admit there is a problem. It is not all right to have Russians interfere with our elections. And it is not all right to essentially say our Justice Department was wrong because Putin says he didn’t do it. Watch the interview!

Can you imagine what would have happened if the spew that comes out of some of these mouths was directed to Obama. I would have hated to see what that outcome would have been. Thank you for standing up to the stupidity and hatred by the American Media. I stand with President Trump and support him- as he is a force of good. Today many people count evil as good and good as evil – always fight for what is right, do not cower,do not back down.
Mr. Goldman, I want you to know there are very many here who support you and please don’t let all the hate dissuade you from trying to do the brave. We are so blessed to have a man submit himself to all the constant resistance and staged demonstrations and have the will to keep his promise of protecting us from terror and communism when there is a mass hypnotism of hate and demoralization spreading like wildfires. We will try to keep honor and pride a standard, even though we must keep silent for fear of violence, disrespect and separation of friends we love. I pray more liberals become aware of the #walkaway movement happening.

Yes Carl, the “mainstream” media’s constant negative coverage of our president is a disgrace – And I recently heard a commentator say that the mainstream media’s recent bias coverage of Trump and Putin’s meeting was nothing more than pornography. We all need to stop and take a deep breath. No Chicken Little, the sky is not falling, it’s just our mainstream media acting like children who didn’t get their way. Keep up the good work Carl.
You have known me for years and have never asked my political affiliation and to be honest I know it would never had made a difference as long as honesty was front and center. You and Jeri have put your words and actions to work in improving this community. Where there is action there is judgement. No situation is perfect. No person is perfect but it is our responsibility as citizens of our community and country to look at facts. Facts are void of emotion which allows for good decision making. I read this today and think appropriate for this post, “complainers are masters at exaggeration.”
I know and love people from both sides of the political fence but I trust and rest in facts not the emotion or frenzy of the situation.
