As the new chief nursing officer for Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Hein will oversee one of the nation’s best high-ranking quality nursing teams, according to Providence officials.

“Jodi is a perfect fit for Holy Cross,” said Bernard Klein, the hospital’s chief executive. “She is focused, enthusiastic and eager to lead our talented team of nurses. Most importantly, she is committed to our collaborative style and our goal of continually striving to provide the best care possible for our patients and their families.”

Hein, a registered nurse with a doctorate in nursing practice, most recently served as chief nursing officer at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, a hospital she noted she finds similar to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.

Both are trauma centers, provide neonatal intensive care and have emergency departments designated as receiving centers for stroke patients and those suffering the most severe type of heart attack. The two hospitals are certified “Baby Friendly” – verification they strongly encourage new mothers to breastfeed.

“I was impressed immediately at Holy Cross by the way all the departments work together,” Hein said. “All disciplines collaborate closely to ensure the best patient outcomes. Nurses are very engaged and involved as evidenced in the high quality of patient care.”

What drew Hein to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, she said, was its 10-year status as a “Magnet Hospital,” those hospitals that are recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence and quality patient care.

Magnet Hospital nursing staffs are rated among the top 6 percent of counterparts nationwide, and Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is the only Magnet Hospital in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, officials said.

“As a Magnet Hospital, it’s an expectation to provide ongoing educational development of nurses, clinical research to further improve the quality of care and a shared governance model, which gives nurses more autonomy and decision-making capacity,” Hein said.

Hein has 19 years of nursing management experience across a range of specialties and operations. At St. Mary’s, she was named the “No. 1 Leader” on the hospital’s employee engagement survey.

Previously she served as chief nursing officer and chief clinical officer for Suburban Medical Center, with campuses in Paramount and Los Angeles; chief nursing officer at Lakewood Regional Medical Center; chief clinical officer for Kindred Hospital Santa Ana, La Mirada and San Gabriel Valley; and chief nursing officer at Community and Mission Hospital, another two-campus facility, in Los Angeles.

Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, part of the Providence St. Joseph Health system, is a Catholic not-for-profit hospital, ranked among the nation’s top 100 hospitals. With a reputation for quality, it is the busiest hospital serving the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, according to officials.
