Former Santa Clarita business leader Bill McClendon died this week, prompting those in the auto industry to remember him and his contributions to the city.

McClendon was the founder of Keyes Lexus of Valencia, as well as the vice president of the Santa Clarita Auto Dealers Association.
“It was a shock. (An) absolute total shock,” said Don Fleming, the president of the association and co-owner of the Valencia Acura dealership. “I’ve known Bill for 20 plus years.”

The business owner set up shop more than a decade ago in Santa Clarita, selling new and pre-owned luxury cars. But in 2013, he left his adopted city for new opportunities, running a dealership in Ventura.
“He was a good guy and a good friend,” said Fleming. “And I’ll miss him deeply.”

A real gentleman that always had a smile on his face!
He was kind and considerate.. a very caring man. I loved working with him he always made me smile and feel happy to be around him!!! I will truly miss him!!! Wish I could have been there for him????

It saddens my heart to hear of Bills passing. Bill and I started in the car business together. We were roommates in the 80’s and he was in my wedding. You could not have a better friend then Bill. I will truly miss him. God bless his family.
Bill was my boss for 8 years at Keyes in Nan Nuysand was the best General Manager you could ever work for. I learned more from Bill during our time together then any other GM in my 33 years in automotive management. Billy knew how to make the job fun while being professional and highly productive.
