KHTS, along with a select group of Santa Clarita representatives, traveled to the nation’s Capital this week in an effort to have an impact on today’s decision makers. Many thanks goes to Congressman Steve Knight and his staff for assisting with scheduling, guidance and support.
After two full days of informational sessions and face-to-face meetings with various D.C. officials, the group consisting of dozens of Santa Clarita business and community leaders were given the opportunity to tour the nation’s capitol Wednesday night.
Guided by Rep. Steve Knight, the tour group visited the various landmarks and institutions that make up the national mall, from the Lincoln and Vietnam Veteran Memorials to the George Washington Monument.
The following morning, a contingent of College of Canyons officials met with the last elected official for this year’s trip: Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-KY.

During their conversation, COC officials spoke with Guthrie about workforce programs on college campuses, and what the future held in store for these workforce and apprentice programs.
The entire group then rejoined for the final two meetings of the 2018 KHTS Washington D.C. Trip, beginning with representatives from the Motion Picture Association of America.
Vans Stevenson, senior vice president of state government affairs for the Motion Picture Association of America, discussed the film tax credit and some of the challenges of keeping filming in California.
Stevenson was “extremely complimentary” of the efforts Santa Clarita has made in attracting filming and encouraged the community to keep up the good work, according to those in attendance.
Joining in with the MPAA officials was Lobbyist Harry Henderson of Anchor Consulting LLC, who touched on issues facing both Santa Clarita industry and infrastructure.
The trip’s final meeting was with Harry Henderson, owner of Anchor Consulting, who had already given the group his thoughts on the political landscape in Washington at the group’s dinner on Tuesday evening. Henderson also took time to share his thoughts on how the group could expand its efforts for future trips.

However, before the group said goodbye to D.C. until next year, KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman gave his closing remarks that reflected on the achievements made by this year’s group.
“Each one of our KHTS trips has a tremendous impact. I believe our group is heading home with a lot of terrific information,” said Goldman. “We have a lot of follow up homework to do that I believe will lead to many projects that will be benefiting our valley in the future.”
Additionally, Goldman once again expressed his gratitude to Knight and his staff for helping coordinate this year’s trip.
“I’d like to personally thank Steve Knight and his stellar team for making us feel welcome and arranging meetings with other key legislators and decision makers,” said Goldman. “Congressman Steve Knight and his staff did an incredible job in arranging meetings, tours and giving our group an inside view of the current political climate.”
