Congressman Steve Knight of the 25th Congressional District and Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) introduced the resolution September 13.

Congressman Knight said the Olympics are a great opportunity for the United States to show international unity.

“Having the games in Los Angeles grants the city and surrounding communities an opportunity to showcase our unique culture and diverse offerings,” he said.

House Resolution 516 supports the awarding of Los Angeles to bring the 2028 Summer Olympics back to the United States. It pledges the cooperation of Congress with respect to that bid.

Representative Knight is the sponsor on the resolution with the original co-sponsor, Congressman Gomez.

Knight said in a statement he expects the Olympics would yield positive economic opportunities for the U.S. and Los Angeles.

In recent years, Knight signed a bipartisan letter detailing Los Angeles’ distinctive advantages as a host city to Larry Probst,  the chairman of the United States Olympics Committee.
