“First and second place were from China and we came in third (out of 12 teams),” Founder and Director of Alpha-Kidz International Jessie Kodish said. “For the first attempt, I’m very proud of my kids.”

The “Alpha Kids” elementary school entered three teams of five children, ranging from third to sixth grade.

“The elementary kids had the same exact tasks as the middle school and high school kids. The whole competition was the exact same thing and the coaches were not allowed to help,” Kadish said. “The only difference was scoring for different divisions.”

WER is an international robot contest for children and youth from 4 to 18 years old. Each year, over 500,000 contestants from 30 countries participate in WER contests.

The WER theme this year is robots impersonating workers from first industrial revolution, with the intent to propel human beings’ entry into the Industrial Age.

WER requires competing teams to design robots that will impersonate miners, architects and workers from the early 1760’s to carry out mining, road building, transportation, smelting, building and other tasks.
