Scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Sept. 12 at City Hall, City officials are hosting the free event in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
“When a loved one is in need of assistance, you want to get them the help they need before it is too late,” according to a City news release. “From mental health services to rehabilitation and drug prevention resources, taking a proactive approach enables you to have tools at the ready before a problem arises.”
The Parent Resource Symposium is expected to focus on drug laws and trends, as well as common issues affecting teenagers today, according to event organizers.

Panelists invited to participate are Detective William Velek with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department; Brenda Tumasone, a certified chemical dependency specialist with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence; Dawnel DeRubeis, education committee lead with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; and Michelle Krantz, principal of La Mesa Junior High School.
