“Bullying is the second biggest problem with children and teens in Santa Clarita,” Quest Toastmaster speaker Michelle Tandoc-Pichereau said. “Next to drugs, bullying has become one of the biggest problems in the area, and cyberbullying has only made it easier for these attacks to reach victims at home.”

The National Center for Educational Statistics reports 1-in-4 students have been bullied in schools in 2015, and this is only the number of incidents that went reported. There are numerous accounts of bullying that go either unnoticed or unreported.

“Families who attend the event will be able to walk away with the knowledge of different types of bullying as well as the signs that usually follow bullying victims,” Tandoc-Pichereau said.

After presenting families with bullying statistics for Santa Clarita, Sgt. Tim Vander Leek and Deputy Tom Drake of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will be providing different resources for information and help within the area, but they will also offer helpful tips of when and how to step in and prevent bullying.

Michelle Tandoc-Pichereau has high hopes for this anti-bullying event. “We would love a great turnout for this event. If it is successful, more events would be planned to help teach body language skills and build students’ confidence that will further help them prevent bullying, but also help them throughout life.”

Anti Bullying: Confidence Boot Camp will be held at the Valencia Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 6:30-8 p.m at no charge.
