11:28 a.m.: The deputy shot in last night’s deputy-involved shooting has been released from the hospital according to Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

No additional information has been released on the suspect’s condition. At least one other suspect was detained, but has not been arrested yet in connection with the incident, according to sheriff’s officials.

8:40 a.m.: At 10:05 p.m. Tuesday night, deputies were dispatched to an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon” call after two suspects approached a woman who was parking her vehicle and pointed a handgun at her. She retrieved her cell phone to report the incident and the suspect fled near the pool area of the apartment complex, according to Sheriff’s records.

When deputies arrived, they located one of the suspects in the parking area of the apartment complex. The suspect fired his handgun towards the deputies, striking one of the four deputies who responded in the neck.

That deputy is in stable condition Wednesday morning at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. None of the deputies involved have been identified by officials.

Deputies returned fire, striking the suspect, a 29-year-old Hispanic man. He was shot at least once in the torso and treated at the scene before being taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. Officials said Wednesday morning he was in surgery, and his condition was unknown. Previously, LASD officials listed his condition as critical.

The second suspect, a male Hispanic juvenile, was found in one of the apartments and was detained.  He is being questioned by investigators to ascertain his involvement in this incident.  He has not been arrested at this time.

An LASD helicopter is circling the street, keeping a spotlight trained on the apartment building.

12:05 a.m.: Sheriff’s officials have confirmed the suspect injured in the deputy-involved shooting is in critical condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

Homicide Bureau detectives are en route to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, as is a standard protocol for any officer-involved shooting.

11:49 p.m.: Active containment is still in place for a possible second suspect in the 21300 block of Bottletree Lane.

Dockweiler Drive between Valle Del Oro & Sierra Hwy is closed until further notice, according to officials.

In April, a gang-related shooting left one person dead in the same neighborhood. Officials have not released any info about Tuesday’s shooting that ties it to any gang related activities.

KHTS was on scene when a person believed to be the suspect shot during the incident was transported to the hospital.

Initial reports indicate the shooting occured shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Newhall residents are advised to avoid the 21300 block of  Bottle Tree Lane, as it is still an active scene. Residents in the area are being told to stay inside their homes.

  1. It’s hours later and the helicopters are still circling overhead. Any updates?

  2. My goodness my daughter lives in that building ,second shooting their. Time to move her. As of this morning have they got second suspect.

  3. We live in the adjacent complex. Usually so quiet, though we were shaken by the Dockweiler gang murder in April. Been living here nearly 7 years and have loved our place. Starting to think about moving – our lease is up in March.
