In 2014, Fox was sued by a former legislative director, Nancy Kathleen Finnigan, for harassment, discrimination and retaliation claims.

Finnigan alleged that the former lawmaker exposed himself to her, as well as forced her to work on cases from his private law practice, and she was required to perform personal tasks for him during and after business hours.

After reporting him, she was fired, according to the lawsuit.

“Fox’s grotesque behavior is appalling and was one of many reasons the voters of the Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita soundly rejected Steve Fox and kicked him out of office,” said Republican Party chairman, 36th Assembly District Drew Mercy, “his disgusting behavior has no place in a civilized society.”

The settlement was brought to light after a public letter surfaced with nearly 150 women’s signatures criticizing the culture of sexual harassment in California’s state politics, according to CNN.

“The last few days have made clear that the pervasive, demeaning and degrading harassment women face in political circles is a problem that goes beyond partisanship and everyone is accountable,” said California Democratic Party Women’s Caucus Chair Christine Pelosi “we as Democrats must continually strive to advance equality for all.”

This is the second lawsuit against Fox that was settled by the California Assembly, according to a report in the Sacramento Bee

Over the past two decades, at least five lawsuits against legislators have resulted in payouts totaling more than $850,000, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Steve Fox was the assemblyman in the district that’s  now represented by Tom Lackey, which covers Antelope Valley, a small portion of Santa Clarita including Agua Dulce and northern areas of Saugus.

The Palmdale Democrat served as an assemblyman for a portion of the Santa Clarita Valley in 2012.

He sought a second and third term in 2014 and 2016, but lost to Tom Lackey both times.

Fox regularly attended KHTS Sacramento trips while he was in office and assisted a number of issues impacting Santa Clarita during his tenure.

“We are witnessing a powerful moment where women are standing up and refusing to stay quiet about the treatment we have endured for too long,” said Pelosi, “this is how change for the better starts, and our Democratic Party must stand in solidarity with the amazing women driving this long-overdue and badly needed movement.”
