The event, based on the Mexican holiday to honor children, has expanded to focus on child literacy, featuring storytime and a free book for each child that attends, while supplies last.

Children in attendance will begin with a dance party at 11 a.m., and afterward can enjoy a story and an appearance by book character “Curious George.”

A performance by members of Miss Debby’s Mystery Monday, who regularly meet at the library, are set to finish out the event by around 2 p.m.

“Miss Debby, a librarian here, runs an afterschool program where kids learn about science and creativity through various activities and solving mysteries,” explained Stacy Schlesinger, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Public Library. “Some of the children from that program decided they wanted to put together a show where they could share their talents with the community.”

The children are expected to present between five and seven individual acts.

Throughout the day, children will also be able to partake in face painting, chalk drawing, personalized dream catcher construction and a painting activity focused on Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
