David Aladana, 21, walked into the U.S. Port of Entry Customs Border Protection Office in San Ysidro in late February claiming that he had killed Maximiliano Bernal, 22, of Newhall, according to Lt. Eddie Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.

Aladana is currently being charged for one count of murder, with special allegations that the crime involved a handgun.

Bernal’s remains were found where Aladana claimed they were on Sand Canyon Road at mile marker 7.98, said Hernandez.

After Aladana confirmed where the body was with officials, he gave no further statements on why he was returning from Mexico or why he killed his alleged childhood friend.

Aladana is currently being held at the Pitchess Detention Center’s north facility in Castaic at $3 million.

He is due back in court on Wednesday, Nov. 16, where he is facing up to 50 years to life if convicted.
