Castaic Animal Shelter Offering $20 Cat Adoptions In January With ‘Happy New Cat’ Promotion

The Castaic Animal Shelter, along with seven other branches of the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control, has reduced adoption fees for cats to $20 for the month of January.

The standard fee for cat adoptions is $50 if adopted within the first 10 days of the cat’s arrival at the shelter, and $30 if adopted after the first 10 days.

“We hope this promotion will help our goal of finding forever homes for as many of our animals as possible,” said Don Belton, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.

The $20 adoption fee also covers the spay or neuter services of the adopted cat, which is typically $40 in addition to the adoption fee, according to officials.

Previously, the department was able to offer free cat adoptions through a nearly $1 million grant awarded by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in Sept. 2015.

Available funds from the grant were used by July 2018, and an additional $200,000 in funding was provided by the ASPCA, enabling the promotion to be extended until Dec. 2018, according to officials.

Aside from the adoption fee, potential cat owners are still expected to pay the licensing fee based on the city they live in.

For residents of the City of Santa Clarita, licensing fees are $10 for cats and $5 if the cat is spayed or neutered.

The new deal comes on the heels of the “Home for the Holidays” promotion the department presented in December, which offered reduced adoption fees for both dogs and cats.

“We have many cats and kittens available across all seven of our care centers, so while not everyone knows of all seven locations, please consider adopting from any of our branches and help our cats find their forever homes,” said Belton.
