Outside a barn near the construction site for Castaic High School, members of the Castaic Lions Club and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints prepared to light the float for another night.

The Castaic Lions Club partnered with other organizations from the community to continue a 31-year-old tradition and light up neighborhood streets with their Santa float. The nightly festivity run from December 2-12.

The need for more manpower prompted the Lions Club to call on other organizations from the community to use the float on different nights.

“We got burnt out,” said Louie Diaz, the leader for this year’s float construction. “It’s a ten night event, and we need at least five to six people to show up. And it got to the point where we were only having maybe two or three people showing up, and it’s just way too much work for three people.”

On Saturday night, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints hosted the float, and drove out throughout the streets of Castaic for residents to to see.

“It’s important for us because it’s so much fun to see the reactions,” said Diaz. “All the excitement of the kids. Finally they see the float come … it’s all lit up, and the kids just go crazy.”
