Castaic Woman Accused Of Killing Father Pleaded No Contest To Murder Charges

Denise Ann Gillis, a Castaic women, who was accused of stabbing and killing her father met in court Tuesday where she pleaded no contest to one count of second degree murder, officials said.

Gillis is due back in court Wednesday to determine her sanity at the time of the killing, said L.A. County District Attorney’s Office officials.

Gillis was arrested Sept. 5, 2014, after her father’s body was found in their home with multiple stab wounds and injuries to the head.

James Gillis, 87, was declared dead at the scene by first responders.

The case is proceeding after nearly three years of delays due to questions about Gillis’ mental competency to stand trial, and later her sanity at the time of the murder.

In August of 2016,  Gillis was declared fit to stand trial.
