A slight chance of showers remain for the holiday weekend in the Santa Clarita Valley after Friday’s strong storm, which closed a number of local roads.

“(There is) a little bit more rain coming in,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Sirard.

As of 5:40 a.m. Saturday morning, the recent storm brought over 2.8 inches of rain in the Saugus area and nearly 4 inches of rain in the Newhall area, according to National Weather Service officials.

“(Saturday night), there is a 30 percent chance of showers …(Sunday) will be partly cloudy and dry with a slight chance of rain (in the) evening with a 50 percent chance of rain after midnight,” Sirard said.

There is a 50 percent chance of rain on Monday, which is expected to have cloudy skies and remain in the high 60s, according to Sirard.IMG_7166

Some roads in the Santa Clarita Valley remain closed due to flooding and debris, including Soledad Canyon Road (between Agua Dulce Canyon Road and Crown Valley Road) and Bouquet Canyon (2 miles north of Vasquez Canyon Road to 5.5. miles north of Vasquez Canyon Road).

Officials have also declared that Sand Canyon Road at Iron Canyon Road will be closed for 30 minute increments so crews have time to clear debris from the bridge area. Residents will still have access to the road, with the roadwork expected to continue until Saturday evening.
