The 5th annual SCV Charity Chili Cook-Off raised funds for SRD Straightening Reins and the Spotlight Performing Arts Center organized by Nicole Stinson and Amanda Benson.

“We are thrilled with the community support,” said Benson. “Everyone seemed like they had a good time — all while helping two great nonprofits.”

The cook off featured over 40 different chilis, everything from sweet and tangy, to five-alarm and even pumpkin chili — all aiming for the top spot.

The contest was judged by a panel of professional chefs including Dustin Boole, executive chef at Newhall Refinery and Peyton Poulsen, executive chef at TPC Valencia — as well as the guests in attendance.

Scott Ervin of the Speakeasy Bakery was chosen as the Chef’s Choice Award for his “Smokin’ Hot Here’s the Beef Chili” and Channi Kuar won the People’s Choice for the “Chicken Masala Chili.”

The event benefited SRD Straightening Reins, that provides behavioral, educational, and community outreach services to youth and their families in the Los Angeles area.

The cook-off also helped the Spotlight Arts Center — their vision is to create a community hub that promotes visual and performing arts of all mediums.

The event also featured a silent auction to raise money for the nonprofits, line dancing, mechanical bull, and music from a live band.

The cook-off was co-sponsored by Whitening Lightning and Gerard Cosmetics, which have been involved since the inception of the event.
