The bikes will be delivered to the Child & Family Center as part of the 16th Annual Christmas Promise Bike Build.
“We’re having a party to give (a bike to) some of the selected children,” said Cheryl Jones, vice president of marketing and community outreach at the Child and Family Center. “We’re just so grateful for their generosity.”
Each year Chiquita Canyon joins the nationwide effort to donate 2,000 bicycles across the United States.
“Chiquita is always happy to be doing this and they will continue to do it,” said John Musella, spokesperson for Chiquita Canyon. “They are always supporting different events and this is one that they love doing every year.”
Chiquita Canyon employees and their families helped to assemble the bikes on December 16.
“It’s the whole tradition of providing the bikes, and it makes it worth that much more to put them together and (give them) to children in need,” Musella said.
The Child and Family Center provide mental health services for children and began working with Chiquita Canyon about five years ago, Jones said.
“We look forward to this every year,” said Steve Cassulo, District Manager for Chiquita Canyon. “There is nothing better than watching a child’s face light up when they get their first bike. It’s a magical experience and we’re happy to do it.”
The Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley provides children with essential tools needed for a successful and bright future, according to the organization’s website.
