California High Patrol officers received the call at approximately 6:20 a.m. regarding a single-vehicle rollover crash involving a SUV, south of Ward Road on the northbound lanes of Highway 14.

There were five people in a Chevrolet Trailblazer when the driver, Karen Adams, 37, of Los Angeles, veered right and collided with a dirt embankment, causing the SUV to flip several times, officers said.

Adams was driving with four children in the car, three juveniles were wearing safety equipment, two 8-year-olds and a 14-year-old, but an 1-year-old female infant was not. The child was killed when she was ejected from the SUV, according to a CHP incident report.

The report also notes that drugs and/or alcohol are being investigated by CHP officers as possible factors in the crash.

The two 8-year-olds were airlifted to Childrens Hospital with major injuries, and the 14-year-old was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital.

The cause and circumstances around the crash are still under investigation.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Newhall CHP Office at 661-294-5540.

  2. Who puts an infant in a car without proper restraints? This woman will have to live with that the rest of her life!

  3. Mom died early this morning and I think the nephew did too. So 4 lives lost.
