Circus Vargas is an animal free act and has been that way for over 15 years, according to officials, all the focus of the show will be on the performers showcasing their talents and skills.

Acrobatics, flying trapeze artists and even a metal globe filled with multiple active motorcyclists are expected to perform, according to Circus Vargas Acrobat, Mariella Quiroga.

“We have a tight rope walker and a juggler who’s actually a world record holder. He’s the fastest juggler in the Guinness (World Record) Book.” Quiroga said. “We have an amazing show with many very talented artists.”

The circus troupe has been setting up for the last week in preparation for the debut Thursday, according to officials.

“It takes them about a day and half to set up so they’re working really hard to get the tent up for our debut,” Quiroga said. “A lot of the people you see setting up are also part of the show… everyone here is doing everything.”

The Circus Vargas travels with a group of about 50 people, according to officials, but only 22 individuals from the whole troupe are actually performers.

The circus is run by former aerial artist and ballerina, Katya Quiroga, and former trapeze star Nelson Quiroga, who both met as child performers for Circus Vargas. Now their daughter Mariella Quiroga also performs for Circus Vargas.

“I’m an eighth generation circus performer so I’ve been in it pretty much my whole life, Mariella Quiroga said. “I grew up in different circuses around the world and grew up watching my parents and my grandparents perform. So, I already fell in love with it at a young age.”

One Santa Clarita non-profit, Friends of Castaic Lake, are sponsoring the circus on Friday October 26 for two shows, according to officials.

Friends of Castaic Lake produce many fishing events geared for kids, and are supporting the circus event because they believe that like the moment when a child catches their first fish, every child should at least have a circus experience once, according to Friends of Castaic Lake officials.

  1. Circus Vargas had ponies at least 5 years ago or so. Our schnoodle, Minnie, is 11 yrs old and we took her to the mall when they were there one year and she was excited to see the ponies out in the lot.
