The College of the Canyons MakerSpace Festival welcomed hundreds of ‘makers,’ both young and old, to explore the future of technology.

Faculty at COC collaborated with community college organizations in an effort to fuel California students’ technological and creative passions.
The MakerSpace Festival featured something for everyone, from robotics, 3-D printing, hands on art and science demos to food trucks and prizes.
Students from the all-female robotics team, “Heat it up and Keep it cool Robotics,” or FTC 8496, were in attendance, showing of their robot after coming back from the world championship competition.
Keynote speakers included Matthew Wallace, with his talk “NASA’s Current and Future Mars Rover Missions” and Joshua Abarbanel speaking about “Digits & Digital: Harnessing Tech In Art Making.”

In addition to Wallace and Abarbanel, participants can also listened to a number of other guest speakers who gave audiences a closer look at topics related to innovation and creation.
The free event was hosted through the partnership between COC’s Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT), California Community Colleges ‘Doing What Matters’ and South Central Coast Regional Consortium.
