COC Theatre To Produce “The Illusion” On Nov. 14

College of the Canyons’ theatre department officials are expected to begin production of “The Illusion” on Nov. 14, according to school officials.

The College of the Canyons theatre department will close its fall theatrical season with a production of American playwright Tony Kushner’s “The Illusion” at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) Black Box Theatre, according to a news release.

The Illusion” is based on French playwright Pierre Corneille’s 17th century masterpiece “L’illusion Comique.” It is a wildly entertaining tale of passion, regret, love and disillusionment, according to a news release.

The play follows Pridamant, a proud but desperate father, who journeys to the cave of wizard Alcandre in search of his son who ran away as a young man, according to a news release. The wizard grants Pridamant’s wish showing him three separate and distinct events from his son’s life.

The encounter, however, leaves Pridamant with more questions than answers as he tries to determine the true fate of his son, according to a news release.

“The Illusion” is directed by Randee Trabitz who also directed “Mr. Marmalade” at College of the Canyons, according to a news release. Trabitz has also directed work at Cal State Los Angeles, and at various international festivals and regional theaters.

The production also features a cast of actors returning to the COC stage including Allen Garcia and David Adler (“Of Mice and Men”), Lawrence Patchin (“Rent”) and Judge Boothby (“Mr. Marmalade”).

The COC theatre production of “The Illusion” will open at 8 p.m. on Nov. 14, in the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center Black Box Theatre, according to a news release.

Additional performances will take place at 8 p.m. on Nov. 15 and Nov. 21-22 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 16 and Nov. 23, according to a news release.

Tickets for all performances are $10 for adults and $5 for students/seniors, according to officials from the event. There is also an additional $3 facilities charge.

The show is recommended for general audiences, according to officials from the event. Children under the age of five will not be allowed into the theater.
