The Canyons Cougars women’s basketball team improved to 5-0 Wednesday night after completing the season sweep over LA Pierce, 82-33.

They were 9-10 heading in to conference play, but Greg Herrick’s group is hitting its stride in the Western State Conference.

Former Saugus Centurion Maryrose Elias has seen her minutes increase heavily since conference play began, up to 29 from 21.3.

And she has delivered. Fresh off a 32-point performance against West LA, the freshman led the Cougars with 19 points on Wednesday.

COC has two of the last three remaining games on the road, starting with Saturday at Santa Monica. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00.

The Master’s University

Both Mustangs teams host San Diego Christian tonight on Bross Court. The women’s team (15-6, 5-4) gets things started at 5:30, then the No. 2 Masters men’s team (23-1, 9-0) caps the night at 7:30.

Santa Clarita High School Soccer

It’s the final day of the regular season in boys and girls soccer. For the boys, four teams are battling for the final two automatic playoff berths, with at-large bids to on the table as well. It’s nearly just as tight on the girls side, with three teams fighting for the final automatic berth.
