Sreden went to the hospital over the weekend after experiencing pain, according to friend and fellow shareholder at the CPA firm Stern, Kory, Sreden & Morgan, Robert Stern.

“It’s pretty devastating,” Stern said. “It’s been tough — it was a tough day at work.”

Sreden was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last May, which eventually spread to his liver. Chemotherapy treatment was helping, and Sreden was working in the office through tax season and “up until the last couple of weeks.” Sreden was with the firm when Stern joined it 30 years ago, he said.

Friends described Sreden as a “prankster” and a “practical joker” who loved his family, golf, the Dodgers and his dog.

“Lloyd was the kind of guy that would always come up with a joke or a gag… at any given situation or any given time,” said Steve Corn, a friend of Sreden’s. “He loved the element of surprise — pulling a fast one on somebody.” Whether it was a trick golf club in the bag or a pinch of salt in the ice water at a Rotary Club meeting, Sreden enjoyed sharing his funny side, Corn said.

“We lost one of the good guys,” said KHTS AM-1220 owner Carl Goldman. “I knew Lloyd for years through his volunteer work in our community. Lloyd was always assisting behind the scenes. Our kids went to the same junior high and high school and while they were going to school we’d see each other often at school events, as well as all our community and business events. I will miss him.”

“Lloyd was a great father, loving husband, loyal friend, devoted business professional and  community leader. Lloyd taught all of us how to live life with passion, dedication and kindness all with an amazing sense of humor. We have all learned so much about life when we think about how Lloyd lived his,” said Fred Arnold, mortgage adviser at American Family Funding. “We are all better because Lloyd Sreden was in our lives.”

Sreden is survived by his wife, Vicky, a daughter and two sons.

Sreden joined SKSM in 1983, and became a shareholder in 1989. He graduated from California State University, Northridge in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Lloyd specialized in accounting, income tax preparation and planning, tax controversy and Internal Revenue Service representation, according to the SKSM website. Lloyd was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA).

Lloyd was also a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Tax Discussion Group and elected to serve on Congressman Buck McKeon’s Internal Revenue Service Abuse Committee, the website states. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club and the William S. Hart Baseball and Softball League, Inc. as well as the Hart High School Baseball Booster Club. In his spare time, Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and golfing at the TPC in Valencia.

A service will be held Thursday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries in Simi Valley.

  1. Lloyd also served on the Board of Directors for the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce as the CFO when I met him in 2008. I liked him right away. He broke the stereotype of the “stuffy CPA” with his joyful personality. He will be missed by so many in this community. Such a loss of another loved SCV community leader.

  2. Andy I’m soo sorry for your loss

  3. I grew up with Lloyd in High School and distinctly remember him on the baseball team . He was always giving of himself and thoughtful towards others and was proud to meet his beautiful wife Vicky a cheer leader for his team. My heart goes out to her and her children.

  4. Lloyd and I served together on the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce board of directors for several years. In 2005, I was in a quandary as to whether I should run for president (now called “board chairman”) of the board. I met with several board members before making my final decision. It was Lloyd, however, who convinced me I was the right person for the job for that particular year. We both knew 2006 was going to be one of many challenges, as there were major issues the Chamber board was going to have to face. As it turned out, I was elected and my year as president became even more demanding than expected. In dealing with these challenges, LLoyd was always there for me, always supportive. He only had one agenda- what was best for the Chamber and our business community. Lloyd had a wonderful caring heart. He always seemed to be giving rather than taking. It is so sad that he left us so soon. He was way too young. His passing is a big loss for our community. I love him and will miss him.

  5. I am so sad to hear this news. I met him back in 1999 in a networking group we both belonged to. I hired him to be my accountant when I started my Chiropractic practice and he’s been doing my taxes ever since. I am sending love and strength to his family as they navigate through this challenging time.

  6. We are completely shocked and saddened by this news. Lloyd was our CPA for almost 20 years, and was always helpful and concerned, along with friendly and jovial. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, and his SKSM family as well.

  7. Wow! I just joked with him just a few days ago. UNBELIEVABLE! I guess he kept this quiet to a lot of friends. Lloyd was the type of person you didn’t need an audience to tell a joke to — he would laugh better than a room full of people. I knew Lloyd for 31 years. He was everything rolled into one great person. The brains to tell you what to do with your money, the knowledge for what to with it during and after tax season…and how not to panic over an audit. Aside from his sterling business ethics and professionalism, he was a friend, whom even if you haven’t seen or talked to for a while, when you did, nothing was lost in between. I will miss him, along with other great friends of mine, who have gone for no reason at all. Makes you wonder who’s really running things upstairs.

  8. I met Lloyd in the late 80’s, he and Larry Stern hired me at the than Stern & Kory CPA firm in San Fernando. He was my mentor in the accounting field, I turned to him many times over the years. He later was responsible for me becoming the Director of Finance at the SCV Chamber of Commerce. After moving away from the SCV in 2005 Lloyd and I keep in touch through e-mails and yearly Birthday telephone calls. I will miss him and he will always have a soft spot in my heart. My prayers are with Vickie and the children now. – Love you Lloyd.

  9. Lloyd was a great guy and friend. He was always a joy to be around, funny and caring. I am so fortunate to have had spent great times with him.
