Around 8:50 p.m. Saturday, emergency responders received a report of a solo-vehicle roll-over on Soledad Canyon Road near Rue Entree in Santa Clarita, said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Michael Pittman.
Two people were trapped in a red Hyundai Sonata, which had crashed into a tree, said Sgt. Brian Allen with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. No other vehicles were involved.
No one witnessed the crash, said Sgt. Richard Cohen with the SCV Sheriff’s Station’s Traffic Division.
A female, believed to be about 35 years old and the passenger in the car, died at the scene and a man, believed to be the driver and in his 60’s, was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with possibly critical injuries, Allen said.
All lanes of Soledad Canyon Road have been reopened after all westbound lanes were shut down due to the collision Saturday night, Allen said.
“We’re investigating possible driving under the influence and we’re also trying to find out the cause of why the car lost control in such a manner,” Cohen said.
