The Nov. 24 event begins at 6:30 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at the College of the Canyons Valencia Campus.

The speaker for the upcoming forum is retired Army General Richard A. Cody.

The speaker series promotes civic engagement and reminds every citizen that a healthy democracy requires personal involvement.

The keynote presentation by Cody is titled, “21st Century Geo-Political-Military Challenges and Leadership.”

“General Cody was a strong leader in the U.S. Army throughout his 36-plus years of active duty and remains as engaged today as he was while in uniform,” McKeon said in a news release. “He has great knowledge and expertise on the current world situation.”

Whether it’s exercising the right to vote, making time to volunteer, or even running for office, every resident has an opportunity to provide personal leadership, officials said.

“The Forum gives us an opportunity and an excellent platform to encourage civic (dialogue) and encourage community members to become involved with current issues,” COC Chancellor Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook said in the news release.

The forum will also highlight the community’s economic industries, such as the aerospace sector.

“The Santa Clarita Valley is home to many companies in the aerospace and defense industry,” Holly Schroeder, president, and CEO of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, said in the news release. “The McKeon Leadership Forum provides a unique opportunity for the leaders of these companies to hear about the latest issues directly from top military and defense leaders.”

The forum was established in 2015 to open a space to leaders in politics, government and military to engage the community in dialogue.

The McKeon Leadership Forum endeavors to promote learning, foster dialog and inspire involvement by bringing thought leaders from the world of politics, government, the military, and social action together with the community to examine today’s most pressing issues.

Conceived as an engaging, thought-provoking exchange, the Forum proposes to not merely entertain, but encourage attendees to shape the future of their community.

Complimentary parking will be available in lots 1 and 2 as well as any student lots.

College of the Canyons Valencia Campus is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.
