Woman Reportedly Struck, Killed While Trying To Save Dog On Sierra Highway

A women reportedly was struck and killed while trying to rescue her dog that ran onto Sierra Highway in Canyon Country on Monday night, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

The woman was struck while walking in the 17600 block of Sierra Highway, near Sierra Cross Avenue, according to Sgt. Maurizi of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Sheriff’s Station officials received the call at 8:45 p.m. The driver reported the victim was walking her dog “near the curb line” on the southbound lanes on Sierra Highway when her dog darted  into traffic, officials said. The identity of the driver, reportedly a 46-year-old male, was not released by Sheriff’s Station officials at this time.

The identity of the victim has not been released, pending the official next-of-kin notification by Coroner’s Office. The victim is a white female in her mid to late 40s, according to Sheriff’s Station officials. Officials did not report finding a dog at the scene of the collision.

Sheriff’s Station officials did not release any information on the driver’s vehicle at this time.

Deputies have not arrested the driver, who is being cooperative. Criminal charges are not suspected at this time.

The investigation is in its preliminary phases. More information will be added as it becomes available.
