Khamlil Swinson, 20, and Kaley Cottrell, 19, were both charged with battery against a former spouse, following a suspected kidnapping investigation which was later discovered to be a domestic dispute, said Lt. Ignacio Somoano of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The incident was first reported around 3 p.m. Thursday near Bouquet Canyon Road and Benz Road in Saugus, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Swinson allegedly pulled his former partner, Cottrell, into his vehicle and drove to Canyon Country where the couple was detained.

Both parties were charged with domestic battery which includes “a battery is committed against a spouse, a or a person with whom the defendant currently has, or has previously had, a dating or engagement relationship,” according to the text of the law.

Battery is punishable by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars, or by imprisonment in a county jail for a period of not more than one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment, according to officials.

Swinson and Cottrell are being held on $25,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Station.

  1. This I don’t understand why the girl, 19 was detained when her former boyfriend pulled her into car. This is scary and all to familiar the Sheriffs arrest both parties in a despite. I personally feel it’s wrong. Women should be protected against their abuser not arrested. As I said this is to familiar.
