A Santa Clarita Valley father and son duo hope their Mount Hood climb can raise $25,000 for cancer research.

Ken and Eric Wiseman, a father-son climbing team, plan to take on the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Challenge to climb Mount Hood on June 10-11. Along with other members of the Los Angeles County Search and Rescue Teams, the group is hoping to raise $25,000 to support Fred Hutch cancer research.

With them, the team will take a “prayer flag” that will have the names of cancer victims inscribed upon it. The Weisman’s hope is to the plant the flag at the summit.

“Almost 11 years ago Ken reached the summit of Mount Rainier and proudly flew the prayer flag that he had carried to the top,” according to a team press release. “Ken and Eric also climbed Mount Rainier last year. Between the 2-climbs and the combined efforts of the team that climbed, they raised over $50,000 for cancer research.”

During the time of Ken’s first climb 11 years ago, his sister was in the midst of her own battle with cancer, said the release.

“May our victory on the mountain play some small part in the more outstanding one that can be achieved through a cure for cancer.”

Ken Wiseman is CEO and his son Eric is an operations manager at AMS Fulfillment.  Outside their careers, Ken also is President of the SCV Sheriff’s Foundation, and a 12-year volunteer with the SCV Search & Rescue Team. This will be Ken’s third climb to raise money for Cancer research, and Eric’s 2nd, said the release.
