Steve Churm, chief communication officer for FivePoint, called KHTS AM-1220 Wednesday to announce the developer’s contribution to the SCV Disaster Coalition.

“We are extremely grateful to all of the first responders,” said Churm, during an on-air interview with KHTS AM-1220. “We count on them. Often times we take their presence and their work for granted, but we have so many of them who fought really bravely on the Sand Fire and whether they were on front lines or behind the scenes providing all sorts of support.”

The donation comes prior to the coalition’s Local Fire and Sheriff Thank You Event and Benefit For Sand Fire Victims scheduled Saturday 3 p.m. at Central Park in Santa Clarita.

The SCV Disaster Coalition helps provide relief to community members faced with rebuilding their lives after natural disasters.

“We’re just pleased to support the SCV Disaster Coalition, and just their incredible work on behalf of all those involved in the disaster,” Churm said.

At least 18 structures were reportedly burned in the over 41,000-acre Sand Fire that began in July and is still considered to be 98 percent contained.

“So many of our colleagues and associates who work at Newhall Land live in the Santa Clarita Valley or near regions,” Churm said. “What happens in the valley, good bad and otherwise is important to us because it affects the people who do such great work for us, so we’re delighted to be involved and delighted to be partnering with you on this.”

“All of this money goes directly to the victims, 100 percent of it, and as we field their needs, there are going to be many as well,” said KHTS AM-1220 co-owner Carl Goldman.

The First Responders have asked that no gifts be given to them during the event; they request that instead, residents donate to the fire victims through the Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition.
