Former NFL Players Promote ‘Program Ironman’ At Golden Valley High School

With the help of several former NFL players, the Santa Clarita non profit, Help The Children, has launched “Program Ironman” — a weekly challenge to Golden Valley High School football players and a video series to be broadcast throughout the whole school — to promote the importance of higher education and self-development during the semester.

Working in conjunction with school officials and NFL Alumni, Terrell Thomas and Greggory Guenther, Help The Children launched their “Program Ironman” challenge at Golden Valley on Wednesday.

Officials stated that Program Ironman is a semester-long challenge that will push the Golden Valley High varsity football team to work together and hold themselves individually accountable to the three core values of being an “Ironman”:

  • An Ironman provides.
  • An Ironman chooses to live a substance-free life.
  • An Ironman gives back.

At the end of the challenge, the varsity team will receive an Ironman trophy and it will be presented to them by the NFL players, according to a Help The Children news release.

All participating senior football players will also receive a special Ironman Student-Athlete tassel for graduation.

Additionally, Thomas and Guenther will also host a 12 part video-series that is shot and edited at Golden Valley High School. The series will then be broadcast on Golden Valley’s student-run television program.

Once a week for the next 12 weeks, the video series will focus on one word and its importance to success, according to Help The Children CEO Bradley Grose.

The series plans to tackle things such as nutrition and sacrifice and how those things are important both on and off the football field.

“The whole school will be able to get some big league inspiration from people that they’ve actually watched on television,” said Grose.

“It was an easy call for me to get involved and partner with Project Ironman because (things such as) nutrition and performance are crucial in education and athletics,” said Thomas, a Super Bowl XLVI Champion. “I believe this program has the ability to shape the future as we challenge students.”

Guest appearances by two other NFL Alumni, Zac Diles and Thomas Williams, are also set to pop up throughout the weekly video series.

At the end of the 5-month pilot program, a special documentary is set to premiere for both students and parents – who will have an opportunity to meet with Thomas and Guenther.
