The Friends of Hart Park hosted their 4th annual Holiday Boutique and Craft Fair inside Hart Hall at William S. Hart Park.

Dozens of people turned out to browse the booths set up by a handful of Santa Clarita small businesses.

“It’s an opportunity for everyone to come and shop for the holidays,” said Eric Reifman, a member of the Friends of Hart Park and coordinator of the event. “The boutique supports small businesses, it always starts the Saturday after Black Friday, or Small Business Saturday.”

Many of the businesses create the wares that were on display, from small plant decorations to children’s accessories and holiday blankets.

“(The event) lets us share our love and passion (for our crafts), it sounds silly but it’s the truth,” said Amy Kliesch, owner of Bling and Shiny Things. “We like to share our works with others. We are a business and we make everything ourselves.”

The boutique was held Saturday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“I think that it helps to bring us together as a community,” Kliesch said. “It helps us to share our talents and bring a camaraderie that’s necessary especially this time of year. With everything going on in the world today, it’s necessary to have these events. It brings people together.”

The event was one of many across that nation that promotes the shopping holiday known as Small Business Saturday, which promotes the purchasing of goods from local and family-owned businesses instead of large corporate-owned stores.

Small Business Saturday was first observed back in 2010 and has since become a regular part of the holiday shopping season that begins with Black Friday.

Friends of Hart Park are members of the Santa Clarita Valley community who donate their time to put on events and maintain the park.

Friends of Hart Park will be also be hosting Cowboys and Carols on Saturday Dec. 5 at the Hart Park Museum. This event will be held to honor the 151st birthday of William S. Hart.
